Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane has tipped defender Raphael Varane for greatness.

Zidane is credited with recommending the Real Madrid hierarchy sign the youngster from French outfit Lens. The club agreed and the then 18-year-old Frenchman moved to the Madrid giants in 2011, tipped for big things.

Now 21, Varane has featured in 24 matches in all competitions for the European champions this season so far. He has scored two goals, both of which came in the Spanish Cup.

Zidane believes the youngster has many years at Real Madrid ahead of him and he is set to be their first choice centre-back for many seasons to come.

“There are a lot of players out there, but I'm really happy for Varane. He's a fantastic player and is Real's future”, Zidane said in an interview with Marca.
