Neil Redfearn has talked up the importance of Leeds United bringing in defender Sol Bamba in the winter transfer window.

The head coach instantly drafted Bamba, who is on loan from Palermo until the end of the season, into his side at Elland Road and the Ivorian has looked assured in his performances in the heart of defence.

Bamba played his part in an impressive 2-0 win away at Reading earlier this week and Redfearn is delighted with the impact the former Leicester City defender has made at the club, despite having only played three times so far.

Redfearn told a press conference earlier today: "He's been massively important.

"He's been instrumental to the run and given us a physical presence at the back that we were lacking; some height and some strength and he can play", the Leeds boss continued.

"He's been a fantastic addition."

Bamba appears set to keep his place in the side for this weekend's Championship tussle against Millwall at Elland Road, a game Redfearn accepts carries genuine importance for his men.

"We want to continue the good form, that's the importance of it.

"The fact that it's Millwall and we can put some distance between ourselves and the bottom three adds more importance to it."

Leeds currently sit five points above Millwall in the Championship table, with the London side in the final relegation spot.
