Chelsea star Eden Hazard has joked that he put pen to paper on a new contract at the club simply to continuing playing alongside Cesar Azpilicueta.

Hazard signed on the dotted line last week, committing to Chelsea for the next five and a half years and ending any doubt about his future at Stamford Bridge.




The Belgian is keen to win trophies with Chelsea over the course of his new contract, but joked he put pen to paper to continue playing with Azpilicueta.

 


Hazard, smiling, told Chelsea TV: "First of all I signed the contract just because I want to play with him [Azpilicueta]."

The Belgian went on to explain that he is happy at Chelsea and sees his long term future at the club.

Hazard was strongly linked with French champions Paris Saint-Germain last summer, Laurent Blanc's men known to be long-term admirers of the forward.

The Belgian won the Player of the Year award at Chelsea last season and is an integral part of Jose Mourinho's team at Stamford Bridge.

He has chipped in with 17 goals in all competitions for Chelsea so far this term, helping the Blues reach the final of the League Cup, the round of 16 of the Champions League and sit atop the Premier League table.
