Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simone believes that his team’s lack of balance due to poor team selection on his part cost them dearly in their defeat to Celta Vigo.
Simeone’s side lost 2-0 against Celta Vigo after conceding two second half goals from Nolito and Fabian Orellana in their league match at Balaidos. Atletico Madrid never mounted a serious challenge against their mid-table rivals as they succumbed to defeat.
The reverse was the reigning La Liga champions' fifth of the current league campaign, which sees them slip seven points behind the leaders Real Madrid with 15 rounds of matches to go before the season’s end.
Talking to the press after the match, Simeone said that he got his team selection wrong and took too long to rectify his mistake.
“I chose the wrong side in the first half. I wasted 45 minutes. I made a mistake.”

The Argentine added that his decision to substitute Ferndado Torres in favour of Cani was not due to poor performance from the striker, but it was an attempt in getting the balance of his team right.
“The fault isn’t Fernando’s, who had to come off, but because we couldn’t balance the side.”
He admitted that the change worked in his team’s favour, but Celta Vigo proved a tough cookie to crack on their home surface.
“We started the second half better. Then there’s the penalty incident and the second goal. Celta played really well.”
However, Atletico Madrid’s defeat has not dampened Simoene’s spirits and he has already set his sights on their next league fixture.
“We keep competing, thinking about next Saturday”, he concluded.
Simeone will look to bounce back from yesterday’s defeat with all three points against Almeria in their next league fixture on Saturday.
