Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that club captain Steven Gerrard will not be involved against Besiktas in the Europa League tomorrow evening.
The Reds host Turkish Super Lig leaders Besiktas at Anfield in the first leg of their round of 32 tie before heading to Istanbul for the second leg next week.
Skipper Gerrard has been absent of late with a hamstring injury and he has not recovered in time to take on Besiktas.
And Liverpool will need to assess Gerrard on a daily basis to judge where he is in his recovery from injury, Rodgers admits.
"He won't have a chance for tomorrow", the Liverpool manager told a press conference this afternoon, when asked if his captain might feature.

"We just need to assess where Steven is at."
Liverpool dropped into the Europa League after failing to finish in the top two of their Champions League group earlier this term.
They take on a side with knowledge of facing English opposition this season, with Besiktas having already taken on Arsenal in Champions League qualifying and then Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League.
If Liverpool are to take a first leg lead against the Turks they will have to do it without Gerrard.
