Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn believes that his side now have real momentum after springing a surprise 1-0 defeat on Championship leaders Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium today.

The Whites took advantage of an early goalkeeping error, with Alex Mowatt making no mistake and guiding the ball home in just the third minute of the match.

Middlesbrough were rocked and pushed forward in search of an equaliser. But they met a Leeds goalkeeper, in the shape of Marco Silvestri, in good form, and time after time he kept the hosts at bay.

Boro again pushed in the second half, enjoying the lion's share of the possession and testing Silvestri again. But the Leeds goalkeeper was up to everything thrown at him by Aitor Karanka's men.

Leeds hung on for a win in a game which saw Boro have 21 goal attempts to the visitors' eight, 17 corners to the visitors' three and ten on target shots to Leeds' three.

For Redfearn, his side were simply determined not to be beaten and now, having won their fifth game in the last six, have built up a head of steam.

"Probably not [we haven’t had a better away performance]", he told Sky Sports.

"I thought the application and the desire to win and to play football….We played some good football, created some chances.

"You've got to give them credit, they are a good side, but we were never going to get beat today.

"We were resilient and it's gathering momentum.

"It was a great performance", the Leeds manager added.

The Whites are next in action on Tuesday evening when they visit Brighton and another win would surely give their playoff ambitions a shot in the arm.
