Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson feels Brendan Rodgers has finally found a system that best suits his players, which is reflecting in the way the Reds have been playing recently.
Goals from Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling helped Liverpool to register a crucial away win against fellow top four contenders Southampton yesterday and carried them to sixth in the league.
Liverpool stretched their unbeaten run in the league to ten games and have been beaten just once in their last 17 matches in all competitions.
The clean sheet at Southampton yesterday meant it was for the first time since 1985 the Reds have managed not to concede a goal away from Anfield for five consecutive league matches.
The scenes at the St. Mary’s were a far cry from the evening at Selhurst Park in November when Liverpool went down to Crystal Palace 3-1 and dropped to 12th in the league table.

Lawrenson feels the change in fortunes has come about because Rodgers has finally zeroed in on a system that allows him to accommodate most of his attack minded players without compromising on their defence.
The Reds legend also feels that the team are performing at their peak because there is also serious competition for places in the squad, which has elevated their game in the last few months.
“Slowly but surely, Rodgers is finding players he can rely on in every position and even better he has got competition for places too”, Lawrenson said on the BBC’s Match of The Day.
“At left wing-back he has alternated between a winger Lazar Markovic and a left-back Alberto Moreno, who is so attacking that it really suits his game.
“Rodgers has shoehorned his attack-minded and quick players into his team to try to recreate the pace he had going forward last season.
“It has taken him a while, but he has managed it and found a system that allows them all to fit.”
