Legendary Liverpool goalkeeper Ray Clemence has revealed that Simon Mignolet’s return to form hasn’t surprised him.

Mignolet has been in tremendous form for the Reds lately and has played a key role in them keeping a clean sheet in their last five league fixtures away from home, their best defensive run on the road since 1985.

However, the season didn’t start on a good note for the Belgian custodian and he did make some crucial errors that led to Liverpool dropping points in the league and in Europe.

Brendan Rodgers decided to take Mignolet out of the firing line and placed his trust in second choice goalkeeper Brad Jones. However, Jones’ injury meant the Belgian returned in between the sticks for the Reds earlier than expected and since then he has been in fine form for the club.

Clemence, who won three European Cups with the Reds, revealed that he is not surprised with Mignolet’s current run of form as he always believed that the Belgian had it in him to succeed at Anfield.

Though he feels Mignolet still needs to work on certain areas of his goalkeeping, Clemence is confident that the Liverpool number one is in it for the long haul.

"He hasn't surprised me because I knew he had it in him”, the Englishman was quoted as saying by the club’s official site.

“He had an exceptional season for Sunderland before Liverpool bought him.

"Earlier this season he endured a spell where things weren't going right for him, but he went away and worked on a few things.

“There are still a few areas I'm sure he'd like to improve on further, but he's having an excellent time of it and long may it continue."
