Amid speculation about Real Madrid’s pursuit of Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that a buy-back clause was inserted during the forward’s sale to Bianconeri last summer, although the Italian insists that they have no intention of exercising the clause.

Morata opted for Serie A after being approached by a slew of European clubs and his decision appears justified as he has shone under Massimiliano Allegri at the Turin giants.

After notching six goals and four assists in his 19 league appearances so far this season, the youngster scored his first Champions League goal for the Italian outfit when he put Juventus 2-1 ahead against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

To his credit, Morata started the match ahead of his fellow Spanish striker Fernando Llorente, and the youngster justified Allegri’s faith with his spectacular showing.

The 22-year-old’s performances this season have increased speculation of his possible return to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer. But Ancelotti appears content with his squad, praising the virtues of Morata, and the Italian added that Real Madrid do not intend to exercise his buy-back clause.

“Despite not playing too much, with me he played well”, Ancelotti told Gazzetta dello Sport, reflecting on last season.

“He’s a modern striker and plays with intensity and a high tempo. He’s cool in front of goal and a hard worker.

“We have no regrets in selling him, his move was carefully thought through. We have a clause to buy him back, but I feel he’ll remain at Juve.”

Morata will look to continue his stellar introduction to Italian football by adding to his goal tally when Juventus face their closest title challengers Roma in their next league fixture.
