Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has said that credit for the Reds’ revival must go to their manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds registered a resounding 2-1 victory over reigning Premier League champions Manchester City yesterday, which has seen the Anfield residents climb to fifth in the table.

Rodgers’ side finished second in the league last term, missing out on the title by mere two points to Manuel Pellegrini’s side. But the Northern Irishman couldn’t get his side to replicate last season’s form and struggled in the early part of the season, lying in mid-table.

Liverpool’s form has enjoyed a resurgence since their defeat to Manchester United in December last year. The Merseyside giants have gone undefeated in their last 11 games since and are putting in a strong challenge for a spot in the Champions League next season.

Rodgers’ had to integrate several new players into the squad following the arrival of Lazar Markovic, Emre Can, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren among others. And Carragher believes that the manager has done a commendable job in easing new players into his side.

“The job Brendan Rodgers has done is outstanding because there were five new players in that team who came in the summer”, Carragher was quoted as saying by the club site.

“There were questions asked early on. People may say they took time to settle in and now they are showing their real form.”

Rodgers has experimented with several formations including 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, a 4-4-2 diamond before settling on a 3-4-3 formation to get the best out of his players. And the former England international feels that credit must go to the manager for devising a system that works to the advantage of his team.

“He's found a system that suits these players that originally wasn't the blueprint of how the team was going to go forward.

“He's found a way of getting the best out of players now that wasn't originally the way they wanted to work. Credit to the manager.”

Carragher further added that the Reds’ comprehensive win over the reigning Premier League champions is a sign that Rodgers’ methods are working.

“He deserves all the praise now because it's not just that Liverpool are playing well and winning, they have devised a way of playing that the champions couldn't handle.”
