Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has confirmed that striker Billy Sharp did not want to join Championship rivals Ipswich Town in January.

Tractor Boys boss Mick McCarthy was keen to take Sharp to Portman Road in the winter transfer window, having noted the striker was struggling for game time at Elland Road.

But Sharp, who has since returned to the starting eleven at Leeds and scored in the side's 2-1 win over Ipswich last night, did not want to quit the Whites.

Redfearn also admitted he was pleased to be backed by the club to keep the players he wanted to keep.

"Yes [Ipswich wanted him], he didn't want to go, which is great for Leeds United", Redfearn told a press conference.

"I didn't want to let anyone go. There was interest in Rudy Austin and people like that.

"And to be fair to the club they backed us", the Leeds boss added.

Sharp hit his 150th career goal last weekend as Leeds went down 3-2 to Watford and was again on the scoresheet last night, contributing to his side's victory.

The striker will hope to continue his goalscoring run this coming weekend when Redfearn's men lock horns with Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
