Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says he now has a close relationship with Gary Neville, in sharp contrast to his playing days, when they barely spoke to each other on England duty.

Carragher, a staunch Liverpool supporter, turned out for the Reds throughout his career, while Neville, a Manchester United fan, only played for the Red Devils throughout his career. The pair regularly clashed in the fiercely fought games between the two rivals, neither giving an inch to the other.

Both have taken up roles with Sky Sports following their respective retirements and now work together for the broadcaster on a regular basis, covering Premier League matches.

And Carragher admits that having spent time with Neville he has actually grown to like him.

"I can’t believe I’m saying this but yeah, I do actually [like Gary Neville]", he told Scouse Bird Problems.

"He’s been a really big help to me since I’ve started out in the media; he’s been doing it longer than me so he’s been able to give me a hand and we’ve got to work as a team.

"We do joke together, and there will always be that Scouse/Manc rivalry, but it has changed since when we were playing for England and I maybe only spoke four or five words to him", Carragher added.

The former defender made a total of 737 appearances for Liverpool between 1996 and 2013, when he hung up his boots.

Carragher won a number of trophies with the Reds, the highlight of his career coming in 2005, when he helped the club to the Champions League.
