Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov admits that he would love to return to Italy to play his football, but feels any move would be "difficult".

The Serbian left-back was snapped up by Manchester City from Lazio in 2010, costing the English champions a fee of £16m.

Kolarov has continued to be linked with returning to Serie A however and admits he would like to once again sample Italy's top flight.

And he has kept a close eye on the fortunes of countryman Sinisa Mihajlovic, now in charge at Serie A outfit Sampdoria.

"I'd like to return to Italy, but it's difficult", Kolarov explained to Sky Italia.

"I'm happy for Mihajlovic; he's doing very well, as are Lazio.

"They're having a great season and I hope they can end it in third or even second place", the Manchester City defender concluded.

Kolarov, who has made 15 Premier League appearances for Manchester City under Manuel Pellegrini this season, is locked down on a contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2018.

In total the full-back has clocked up 162 appearances in total since he joined Manchester City, scoring 15 goals and providing his team-mates with 28 assists.
