Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels that head coach Neil Redfearn playing Mirco Antenucci and Billy Sharp up front as lone strikers is not fair on either player.

Redfearn's current system at Elland Road involves operating with one striker as a target man, whose job is to hold the ball up and bring others into play.

He started with Antenucci as the lone striker against Cardiff City on Saturday, before turning to Sharp to replace the Italian just after the hour mark as the Whites sought to freshen things up in attack.

Gray, who knows Redfearn's options are limited, believes that neither Antenucci nor Sharp are suited to the role in question.

"Is he going to go two up front? When Antenucci and Billy Sharp play up there on their own, I don't think it suits either player", Gray told LUTV.

"I don't think it's really fair to either player. They are better playing off a striker."

Antenucci has netted ten goals for Leeds in all competitions this season, while Sharp has five goals to his name.

Both players joined the Whites last summer, Antenucci arriving from Italian outfit Ternana following a prolific season in Serie B, while Sharp penned a deal from Southampton.
