Former Liverpool and Newcastle left-back Alan Kennedy has expressed his hope of witnessing an entertaining game between the Reds and the Magpies tonight.
John Carver's team, who have lost their last four league matches and are currently placed 13th in the league table with 35 points from 31 matches, will visit Anfield tonight to take on Brendan Rodgers' side.
The Reds will also look to bounce back from back-to-back league defeats and that is precisely why Kennedy hopes that the match will live up to his expectations of being a classic.
Looking back on the Liverpool versus Newcastle United fixtures from the past, particularly during the time of Kevin Keegan as Magpies boss, the 60-year-old added that it would be nice to see something like that when the two sides meet each other tonight.
The fixture in fact has had its share of thrills during the 1990s, when the Reds beat the Magpies 4-3 at Anfield in a league match during the 1995/96 season.

And Kennedy hopes that tonight's fixture will match up to those of the bygone days.
"It's always a classic, it always dreams up the Kevin Keegan era – when there were 4-3s and everybody was scoring goals. It was a wonderful game", Kennedy told Liverpool's official website.
"Newcastle always try to entertain and I believe there'll be plenty of goals in the game."
