Neil Redfearn has refused to speak out against the Leeds United fans who called for club owner Massimo Cellino to sell up and leave Elland Road on Saturday.

A number of Leeds fans have turned decisively against the controversial Italian businessman, who some feel has been influencing decisions at the club despite his Football League ban.

Cellino is banned from running Leeds until next months, but the club has been plagued by instability in his absence, with Redfearn's assistant suspended, Cellino claiming the club's sporting director had resigned, only for the man himself to claim otherwise, and six overseas players coming down with injuries on the eve of a trip to face Charlton.

While Redfearn has received nothing but support from the Leeds fans, a section chanted against Cellino at Charlton, while a protest at Elland Road against the Italian is planned for the final game of the season against Rotherham.

Redfearn was asked today if he feels it is a shame some fans chanted for Cellino's head and the head coach refused to side with the Italian against the fans.

He told a press conference: "It's difficult for me to comment on that [the protests against Cellino]. What I would say is that people form their own opinions and if that's how they feel then that's how they feel.

"The thing about Leeds United supporters is they are very honest, they are very passionate about the club, they want success and they want things done right.

"Listen, they chant, they sing, they get behind the team. If it's not so good sometimes they'll let you know and I think that's right, I think that's how football should be.

"It's very much a northern trait that they like to see their teams competing and fighting for the shirt, players that care and want to fight for the club.

"I have been on my own in the dugout, but I've felt like I haven't. I've felt like I've got 20,000 odd people in there with me and that's helped me", Redfearn added.
