Marseille have reached an agreement to acquire Manchester City defender Karim Rekik, pending a medical, this summer.

Rekik joined the Citizens in the summer of 2011, but he failed to make his mark with the Manchester giants and had loan spells with Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers prior to his two-season stint with PSV Eindhoven.

Last season with the Dutch giants, he made 29 league appearances as Phillip Cocu’s side ended Ajax Amsterdam’s four-year reign of the Eredivisie title to become the Dutch champions.

The youngster found his chances hard to come by at the Etihad Stadium and through the course of his four years with the Premier League outfit, he made a mere three first team appearances.

A statement released on the Marseille website confirmed the Dutchman’s signing.
