Rangers youngster Tom Walsh is looking to push harder to break into the first team picture at Ibrox after the arrival of two new midfielders at the club over the summer.

Manager Mark Warburton has overseen seven new signings at the club since being appointed last month, and two of the new arrivals are midfielders who are direct competitors with Walsh for a place in the side.

Walsh has welcomed the competition from new signings Jason Holt and Andy Halliday, but believes working hard will help him break into the first team ahead of his peers.

“These guys are all good players and everybody knows that but at the end of the day it is good competition for the squad and everyone has got to try and be better than the rest to break into the team”, said Walsh to Rangers’ official website.

The 19-year-old is unworried about the new competition he is facing, despite not making it into the squad for last Saturday’s Petrofac Training Cup tie against Hibernian, and remains upbeat about his chances of first team football.

“I want to be playing, the same as everyone, and unfortunately I wasn’t involved against Hibs but I’m not getting my head down.”

And Walsh has also vowed to keep working hard and knocking on the door of the first team, believing chances will arrive as long as he keeps pushing.

“I’m always going to keep pushing to break into the team because I know it is a long season and anything can change within a week so I am ready whenever the manager needs me“, added Walsh.

Walsh, who spent the first half of the 2014/15 season on loan at Stenhousemuir, made his Light Blues debut as a 16-year-old in Scottish League Two against Stirling Albion in 2012.

He has played 11 times for the Glasgow giants in his career so far, and will be hoping to feature more under Warburton in the 2015/16 season.
