Steve Evans has revealed that the coaching staff and himself have been working with Lewis Cook on the attacking side of his game.

Cook has been deployed in a wider role than he has been used to in recent games, but Evans is clear that in the longer term the youngster is a natural central midfielder.

The former Rotherham United boss believes that in recent months Cook has had a spate of coaching on the defensive side of his game. And Evans is keen to redress the balance by guiding the midfielder on how to affect matches in the final third.

Speaking at a press conference, Evans said: "Lewis' best position is central midfield, but he's still very much learning the game.

"Cookie is a very talented boy and he's a very adventurous boy", the Leeds boss continued.

"He's probably had quite a lot of detailed coaching in the last three months about the defensive side of the game.

"We've tried to work with him in the last few days about the offensive side because there's no doubt where his strengths lie", he added.

Cook has made 12 appearances in all competitions for Leeds so far this season, scoring one goal and providing his team-mates with one assist.

It remains to be seen where Evans chooses to deploy the 18-year-old tomorrow night against Cardiff City.
