Huddersfield Town have agreed a deal to make former Borussia Dortmund Under-23 coach David Wagner their new manager, defying expectations the German would link up with his former boss Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Wagner's recent departure from Borussia Dortmund immediately led to reports he was set to join Klopp's backroom team at Anfield.

However, Huddersfield yesterday sacked Chris Powell as their manager and were instantly linked with appointing Wagner as their new boss.

Now, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Huddersfield have agreed a deal with the German, who will succeed Powell at the club.

Wagner is unlikely to be in charge of Huddersfield for their weekend derby game against Leeds United, but may watch proceedings from the stands.
