Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has left Sam Byram out of the Whites matchday squad for this afternoon's Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield Town.

Byram has been overlooked in the starting eleven, which is unchanged from Leeds' midweek win over Cardiff City, while he has also not been handed a spot on the bench.

The youngster is at the John Smith's Stadium with the Leeds squad today and there is no indication he is carrying an injury.

Evans appears to prefer other options and Byram, one of Leeds' most highly-rated young players, is missing out.

Byram is out of contract with Leeds at the end of the season and has so far resisted putting pen to paper on an extension, despite an offer from club chairman Massimo Cellino and former executive director Adam Pearson.

The right-back-cum-right-winger was linked with several Premier League clubs over the summer transfer window, but no deal materialised and he stayed put at Elland Road.

Evans initially restored Byram to the team when he succeeded Uwe Rosler recently, but the youngster misses out against Huddersfield today.
