Former Rotherham United forward Alex Revell says that there is a fear factor around Leeds United head coach Steve Evans.

Revell played under Evans at the Millers and worked with the Whites boss at close quarters. He featured regularly for Evans, but was then sold to Cardiff City in January this year, while he is now on a loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

The 32-year-old enjoyed his time under Evans, but says some players are not able to work with the Scot. And Evans quickly weeds out those who cannot and crucially, they do not just not play, but are shipped out of the club entirely.

That, Revell says, led to a fear factor at Rotherham, with players actively afraid of the larger than life Scot.

"We achieved back-to-back promotions with Rotherham, and winning games breeds confidence", Revell told Wigan Today.

"Under Steve Evans, there was a fear factor. You knew you had to work hard or you wouldn’t be at the club any more.

"Not just you wouldn’t be in the team – you wouldn’t be at the club any more.

"Listen, he is what he is. He’s a character, but no one can argue with his CV.

"It takes a certain type of player to deal with him – some players can’t deal with that, some can", the forward continued.

"You know that if you’re not the kind of player that can, then you’re not going to be there for very long.

"He liked players who would work hard, give him everything, and leave nothing behind.

"That was what it was like at Rotherham. We had 11 players who would do that", the forward added.

Revell started his career in the youth ranks at Cambridge United before moving on to Braintree Town. He leaped into the limelight with Brighton, while then had a stint at Southend ahead of a move to Leyton Orient.

The 32-year-old joined Rotherham in 2011.
