Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci has revealed that he wants to extend his stay at the club.

The 31-year-old, whose present deal with the Whites is set to expire in the summer, joined the club from Ternana in 2014.

Antenucci has often struggled to hold down a regular spot at Elland Road, but the Italian has been in good form for Leeds this term.

The forward, who has managed to score five goals and provide three assists in 17 games in the present campaign, scored one goal and set up another in the Peacocks’ last game before the international break, a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

And Antenucci explained that he is keen to secure a fresh contract with Leeds.

“I would like [a new contract] but it’s not my decision”, he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“For now I ‘ll just put myself on the pitch, give good quality for the team, for myself and wait for a call – or not.

“I’m focused on my work. I don’t think about the contract. I focus on the work and focus on Leeds, every day here at Thorp Arch.”

Leeds boss Steve Evans also insisted that a new deal may be on the cards, if Antenucci manages to continue his good form.

“It’s maybe a little bit early to decide, but if he continues to play like he has for me, I’m sure Mirco will be around”, he said.

Antenucci, who counts Catania and Torino amongst his former employers, has thus far amassed 54 appearances for Leeds, scoring 15 times.
