Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has insisted that he is relishing the prospect of playing against Manchester City star Sergio Aguero today.

The Argentine international, who is expected to return to action against the Reds following an injury layoff, has been in good form this season.

The 27-year-old has managed to net eight goals in 11 matches in all competitions in the present campaign.

And Lovren, who is expected to partner Martin Skrtel at the heart of Liverpool’s defence in the absence of injured Mamadou Sakho, explained that he is eager to come up against Aguero.

“I’m looking forward to it. I love to play against big players. I never categorise players, I respect everyone but I’m not scared”, the Croatian told his club’s official site.

“I’m looking forward to playing against him. I have had the opportunity three or four times before; he is a quality player and of course, with one opportunity he can score.

“So we need to be clever and concentrated all the time, for 95 minutes, against him. I need to be me. I need to be focused and that’s it.”

Lovren, who joined Liverpool from their Premier League rivals Southampton last summer, endured a tough first season at Anfield.

The 26-year-old has thus far made 48 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside giants, but has been often found wanting at the back.

He also has 30 caps and two international goals for Croatia to his name.
