Leeds United academy chief Paul Hart admits he was pleased with Sam Byram's performance for Leeds Under-21s earlier today.

Byram, one of Leeds' most highly-rated young players and someone linked with a move to Premier League clubs in the summer, was handed a surprising start in the Under-21s against Nottingham Forest.

The right-back clocked up all 90 minutes in a game that Nottingham Forest won 2-0.

Hart was happy with what he saw from Byram, while he was also pleased with the application of fellow senior team members Lee Erwin and Souleymane Doukara, who both started.

The academy boss told LUTV: "I think he [Byram] did alright.

"All the players that are coming down need that time on the pitch and so it's beneficial for them.

"Lee worked really hard, Doukara worked hard, Sam…I was really pleased with their attitude to the game."

Byram sat on the bench for all 90 minutes of Leeds' 1-0 home defeat to Rotherham United on Saturday, as did Doukara. Erwin however was sent on off the bench for the final five minutes.

Leeds have been trying to convince Byram to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season, but have so far come up short.
