Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he will be returning to Liverpool next week, albeit only to train.

The midfielder, who left his boyhood club Liverpool for LA Galaxy in the summer, was linked with a return to Anfield on a loan deal during MLS off-season after Jurgen Klopp took charge of the club last month.

The German however insisted that he was not planning any swoop for Gerrard, but said that he was open to the idea of having the 35-year-old back at the Merseyside club to train with the rest of his squad.

And the ex-England international, who admitted that he will be returning to his former stomping ground to train for two weeks, explained that he is eager to work under Klopp.

"Next week [I’m returning]", Gerrard said on BT Sport.

"I'm going to go in for a couple of weeks and work with Mr Klopp so I'm really looking forward to that, to see what he's about and try and learn a few things off him."

Gerrard, whose present deal with LA Galaxy runs until the end of 2016, has thus far made 15 appearances in all competitions for the franchise, scoring twice.

The veteran won a host of trophies during his spell with Liverpool, but failed to guide the Reds to a Premier League title.
