Chris Smalling admits Manchester United have given themselves a tough final Champions League group game after they could only draw 0-0 at home with PSV Eindhoven tonight.

Manchester United dominated possession against their Dutch opponents, but failed to carve them open, their best chances coming from Jesse Lingard and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Louis van Gaal had restored Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney to the starting eleven after they were declared fit, but the Red Devils could not breach PSV's defence and drew their first Champions League game 0-0 at home since they played Rangers in 2010.

Wolfsburg beat CSKA Moscow in the group's other game and now, depending upon PSV's result against the Russians on the final matchday, Manchester United may need to win in Germany.

Smalling said on BT Sport: "We had more than enough to win the game and make the difference in the final game.

"Coming in we saw Wolfsburg as the toughest game and we have given ourselves a lot of hard work.

"We needed to move the ball quicker and if we got the first goal it would have made it a lot easier", the defender continued.

"We go there with hope because we have beaten them [Wolfsburg] here."
