Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan thinks new signing Mustapha Carayol could have come in handy against his parent club Middlesbrough this evening at Elland Road.
The Gambian international, who joined the Whites on a loan deal until the end of the season from Boro in January, is ineligible to play against his parent club due to a clause in his loan agreement.
Carayol has thus far made seven appearances in all competitions for Leeds, scoring twice.
And Whelan, who feels the 27-year-old could have made a difference if Steve Evans started him in the 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest last weekend, believes Carayol would have made an impact against Middlesbrough if he was eligible to play.
“In terms of who I think could unlock Middlesbrough, I would have said Mustapha Carayol but he’s ineligible to play”, he wrote on the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Carayol, whose present deal with Middlesbrough runs until 2017, spent the first half of the ongoing campaign on loan at fellow Championship outfit Huddersfield Town.
He scored three goals and provided two assists in 15 league outings for the Terriers.
