Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney could be sidelined for up to two months with knee ligament damage, it has been claimed.

The Red Devils had confirmed that the 30-year-old striker was not included in the travelling squad for tomorrow’s Europa League encounter against FC Midtjylland at the MCH Arena in Denmark.

According to the Times, the English international could be out for up to two months after sustaining a knee ligament injury, however, how he suffered this injury is still not clear.

Rooney had a dismal start to the season, but had been in inspirational form since the turn of the year chipping in with seven goals and three assists in the last one and a half months.

The absence of Rooney will come as a huge blow to both Manchester United and their manager Louis van Gaal, whose future is shrouded in uncertainty.
