FC Midtjylland midfielder Jakob Poulsen is confident that his team-mates will maintain a professional approach against Manchester United.

Despite winning the Danish league title last season, the club don’t even have a long history in their homeland and were only formed in 1999.

On the other hand Manchester United are 20-time English champions and have won the European Cup three times, making the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie tomorrow the most glamorous match of Midtjylland’s history.

There is palpable excitement amongst the Midtjylland players about facing the Red Devils and some of them are even childhood Manchester United fans, but Poulsen is confident that they will show a professional attitude once they are on the pitch tomorrow.

The 32-year-old midfielder was quoted as saying by Danish outlet Bold: “We are professionals and we will do our job.

“And our job is to win a game of football. So it may be cool to get a United jersey to hang in our homes at the end of the game, but during the match there will be nothing of that sort.”

Poulsen will be watching from the stands at the MCH Arena tomorrow as he has picked up a suspension in the Europa League, and he admits it will be tough to watch the proceedings without being able to play.

The midfielder said: “It is of course enormously sad [to miss the game].

“It gets nerve-racking to watch the game and not being able to contribute, but it is what it is.”
