Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies is hoping that his side will have learned a few lessons from last time around in Florence, and will use that to earn a positive result when they face Italian giants Fiorentina in the first leg of their Round of 32 Europa League fixture tonight.
The Lilywhites have been pitched against the Serie A side for a consecutive second season in the European tournament, but with the memories of the last away game being not so good, the young left-back is hoping for a change of fortunes this year.
Having drawn their first leg 1-1 at White Hart Lane, Spurs crashed out of the same tournament last year after losing 2-0 to Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
However, with a recent run of good form in the Premier League, that has seen them occupy second spot in the league table, Davies insists his team are ready to face a defensive Fiorentina and believes they will use last year’s lessons to their advantage this time.
“It’s a game where we’re looking to do better than we did last year and it’s nice to start with the away leg first”, the Welsh international was quoted as saying by Tottenham’s official website.

“We learned last year that Fiorentina are a very organised team, a very strong team and I’m sure they’ve improved since then as well so it’s going to be a tough game but hopefully we can do a good job.
“It’s a difficult place to go and the way they play football is based on defence so they’ll make it hard for us to create chances but we’ve got to go out there and look to put our best foot forward”, the 22-year said.
“There’s a good feeling around the squad at the moment and this is another game that we’re all looking forward to.”
Tottenham will host Paulo Sousa’s squad in north London for the return leg on 25th February.
