Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Josh Onomah has revealed that his side were always aware of the importance of their game against Fiorentina.

The London-based side are scheduled to take on the Italian outfit in the return leg of their round of 32 tie in the Europa League later tonight at White Hart Lane.

With the first leg in Florence having ended in a 1-1 draw, Mauricio Pochettino's side hold a slight advantage over their opponents and are expected to go all out tonight in order to ensure safe passage through to the next round of the Europa League.

The fact that the Lilywhites lost their last match against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and thus were knocked out of the tournament will be a slight disadvantage, but Onomah believes that the match against Fiorentina will be different altogether and because of the fact that they lost their last match, the motivation to win this one will be even higher.

“This was always an important game to begin with”, the 18-year-old told his club's official website.

“Obviously now that we’re coming off a loss, we’d like to get a win, but we always want to win our games.

“We learned last week that Fiorentina are a good side, they work hard and they’re good individually and collectively so we have to be mindful of that, but at the same time we’ve got to stick to our philosophy and carry on playing because we’re a good team with belief.

“We are strong mentally and we know that together we can do it. We’ve got very strong characters in our team so that will help us and hopefully we’ll get the win tonight.”
