Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has compared young right-back Lewie Coyle with the now departed Sam Byram.

Byram came through Leeds' youth system and impressed as a right-back, although he was often played further up the pitch, acting as a right midfielder and a right winger.

The 22-year-old refused to extend his contract at Leeds earlier this season and the Whites cashed in on him in the winter transfer window, selling him to Premier League side West Ham United.

And Leeds now have a new young right-back knocking on the door in the shape of Coyle, who made his full league debut for the Whites in a 1-1 draw at home against Fulham on Tuesday evening.

The 20-year-old has a firm fan in Evans and the Leeds head coach has compared Coyle to Byram, words which will no doubt be music to the youngster's ears.

"Lewie Coyle is a Sam Byram type", Evans told BBC Radio Leeds.

"He is an attacking right-back, good pace, good technique, but young and learning."

Coyle will be hoping to keep his place in the Leeds side on Monday night when the Whites are in Championship action away at Brighton.
