Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he wanted to face Manchester United after his side drew the Red Devils in the Round of 16 of the Europa League.

The Reds, who are set to face Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley on Sunday, progressed in the Europa League following their 1-0 win over Augsburg at Anfield yesterday, with the first leg ending goalless in Germany on 18th February.

On the other hand, Manchester United thrashed Danish outfit FC Midtyjlland 5-1 at Old Trafford last night to win the Round of 32 tie 6-3 on aggregate.

And Klopp, who saw his team lose 1-0 to Manchester United in the Premier League at Anfield in January, explained that he wanted Liverpool to draw their fierce rivals on the European front.

“That’s great, really we deserve these games, with the game yesterday”, he said in his pre-League Cup final press conference.

“Obviously it’s not easy but you can ask my staff and when they asked me yesterday who do I want I said Manchester United.

“We had a good game when I was here and we lost 1-0, it was not what we deserved on this day but we got it and life gives us the chance again.”

It will be the first meeting between the two teams in Europe; Liverpool will welcome Manchester United to Anfield on 10th March before travelling to Old Trafford for the return leg seven days later.
