Rangers manager Mark Warburton feels Michael O'Halloran's performance for the Gers in Saturday's 1-0 win over St Mirren proved why the club were so keen to sign him.

St Johnstone rejected multiple bids for O'Halloran from Rangers before the Gers saw a late bid meet with success and managed to push his capture across the line before the closure of the winter transfer window.

The former Bolton Wanderers forward has been given a chance to impress following an injury picked up by Martyn Waghorn and turned in an impressive performance against St Mirren.

He provided the assist for Harry Forrester to score the only goal of the game and Warburton was delighted with what he saw from his new recruit.

"I thought Michael O’Halloran was very impressive", he told Rangers TV.

"He showed pace and directness and good quality and you get an end product from Michael which is really pleasing.

"That is why we worked so hard to get Michael; he’s technically gifted, physically he’s strong and he’s quick and he’s powerful", the Gers manager added.

Rangers' victory over St Mirren in front of over 46,000 at Ibrox, combined with Hibernian's surprise 3-2 defeat away at Dumbarton, means Warburton's men are now a whopping eleven points clear at the top of the Scottish Championship table.
