Leeds United supremo Massimo Cellino is standing by head coach Steve Evans despite the Whites' 4-0 drubbing at Brighton & Hove Albion last night.

Evans' side turned in a shambolic performance which saw them head in 4-0 down at half time and Cellino leave his seat at the Amex to head home early.

The Scot was then told not to speak to the media by Cellino and headed for the team bus without conducting his usual round of interviews.

But Cellino has told Sky Sports News HQ that he does not intend to sack Evans.

The Italian also expressed sympathy for the 1,500 Leeds fans who made the long journey to the south coast to watch their side lose to Brighton.

And Cellino has vowed to invest in the playing squad in the summer, spurred on by the embarrassing result last night.

Evans has yet to sign a new contract at Leeds, but has remained hopeful of staying in charge of the Yorkshire giants into next season.

The former Rotherham United boss remains convinced he can drive Leeds towards a promotion challenge next term.
