Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor feels the Reds need to be show more consistency towards the end of the season if they want to play European football next term.
Liverpool are currently eleventh in the league table on 38 points, and while talk of finishing in the top four is yet to disappear completely, not many expect them to achieve that target this season.
Mellor admits that the league table is not a pretty read for any Liverpool fan, and believes not qualifying for any kind of European football next season would be unfathomable for the Reds.
The former Reds striker believes consistency has been an issue for the club this term, and they need to address the problem, especially if they need to finish the season strongly in order earn a European spot.
The 33-year-old, previewing tonight's Premier League game, said on LFC TV: “In the worst case, we still want to qualify for Europe; ninth [eleventh] place doesn’t look nice.

“Disappointed that we lost the cup final, let’s respond as well as we can, in front of our home fans against City at Anfield.”
