Louis van Gaal has asked the media to leave Marcus Rashford in peace as he wants the Manchester United striker to live like a normal 18-year-old kid.

The teenage striker has made a wonderful start to his senior career at Old Trafford, with four goals in his first two games for the first team and is being tipped for greater things in the future.

His success at Old Trafford has put him under the spotlight very early into his Manchester United career, and Van Gaal is not sure that all the media attention is beneficial for an 18-year-old boy, as he looks to deal with his new found stardom.

He believes so much media attention can adversely affect the career of a young footballer, but is confident that Rashford is modest enough to understand the situation and keep his feet firmly on the ground.

“First, I think that the media have to leave him in peace”, the Manchester United manager said in a press conference yesterday.

“When you are in front of his house and that kind of stuff, I don’t think that is beneficial for a boy of 18 years old.

“Give him the time to be 18 years old, and we shall guide him also in that way.

"But he is a very modest guy, so I don’t think that shall be a problem. Of course, when you have so much attention from the media, it can go in another way.

“I believe he shall keep his feet on the ground.”

With Anthony Martial fit to play tonight, it remains to be seen whether Van Gaal continues to deploy Rashford as his main centre forward against Watford at Old Trafford.
