Former Tottenham Hotspur manager David Pleat is hoping that Spurs can hold their own away at Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on Thursday.

Mauricio Pochettino's men have been drawn to face the German giants in the last 16 and will be aiming to earn a positive result to take back to White Hart Lane.

Former Spurs boss Pleat is wary of the size of the challenge awaiting Pochettino's side and is crossing his fingers that Tottenham can compete.

Pleat also wants the Spurs players to try and enjoy the occasion, with playing in front of a packed Westfalenstadion a special experience.

"I just hope that Tottenham can hold their own", he said on BBC Radio 5 live.

"Dortmund are a very talented side and the crowd there, the atmosphere, they should enjoy every minute of it if they can.

"It really will be a wonderful occasion", Pleat, who was working as a pundit for Tuesday's Championship matches, added.

Dortmund played out a 0-0 draw at home against Bayern Munich at the weekend, with the gap between themselves and Pep Guardiola's men at the top of the Bundesliga now five points.

Spurs meanwhile drew 2-2 at home against fierce rivals Arsenal and remain firmly in the hunt for the Premier League title.
