Steve Evans has heaped praise on the Leeds United fans, with the manager insisting that the Whites faithful will always remain inside his heart.

The Yorkshire giants, who appointed Evans in October, returned to winning ways at the weekend, following their 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers.

It was Leeds’ first win in six outings in all competitions as the Elland Road outfit have struggled for consistency in recent weeks; the Peacocks’ previous victory incidentally also came against the Trotters at the end of January in the FA Cup.

And Evans, who feels football is all about winning matches, was pleased to send the Leeds supporters home with something to cheer about, following the win over Bolton.

“I've always said that football ultimately is not about performances, it's not about individuals, it's not about coaches, tactics, it's about winning football matches”, he said to LUTV.

“Our first win in six. It was important we sent the supporters, the lifeblood of Leeds United, back home on a Saturday evening feeling that warm glow inside when you win a football match.

“I certainly don't have to say any more about the Leeds United supporters. They will be inside my heart forever more.”

Leeds, who are currently 16th in the Championship table with 41 points from 34 games, will next face seventh-placed Cardiff City in an away encounter tonight.

The Bluebirds were beaten 1-0 by Leeds in the corresponding fixture at Elland Road in November, courtesy of Alex Mowatt’s 63rd minute winner.
