Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has dubbed Giuseppe Bellusci "naive" after the Italian gave away a penalty in the dying stages of his side's 1-1 draw against QPR this evening.

The Whites were heading for a 1-0 win at Elland Road until Bellusci brought down Sebastian Polter in the box in the 88th minute, allowing Tjaronn Chery a chance to level from the spot.

Chery made no mistake and unleashed a powerful shot which gave Leeds goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell no chance of keeping it out.

Bellusci made a mistake at the weekend and cost Leeds a point against Rotherham United – and this evening he made yet another error and cost the Whites two points.

Gray cannot defend what the Italian did and has no doubt it was a clear penalty, bemoaning the defender's decision to dive into a challenge which did not need to be made.

"You can't make a challenge like that in the box", Gray said on LUTV.

"You can't dive across somebody who is running away from the goal.

"You've got to say it's naive defending. You don't throw yourself across somebody in the box like that and expect to get away with it", the Leeds legend added.

Bellusci is unpopular with a number of Leeds fans who feel his rash challenges often cost the Whites at crucial points in games.

There was interest in Bellusci from clubs in his native Italy during the winter transfer window, but Leeds refused to sell.
