Liverpool are moving towards securing the signing of Loris Karius, with the Mainz goalkeeper arriving on Merseyside to undergo his medical, according to German daily Bild.

The 22-year-old is expected to provide stiff competition for Simon Mignolet, who has struggled for consistency between the sticks at Liverpool.

Although Karius signed a contract extension with Mainz in January, Liverpool triggered his €10m release clause, thus making the German outfit helpless.

He made 36 appearances in all competitions in the 2015/16 campaign, managing 10 clean sheets.

Barcelona custodian Marc-Andre ter Stegan, 1.FC Koln shot-stopper Timo Horn and Marseille’s Steve Mandanda were also on Liverpool’s radar, but it seems Karius is now the favourite to join the Reds.
