Liverpool are one of the quartet of clubs who are keeping a close watch on Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal this summer, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

A product of the Lyon youth academy, the winger enjoyed a fine 2015/16 campaign, scoring ten goals and providing nine assists along the way for the Ligue 1 outfit.

His current contract with the club is set to expire at the end of next season, and Lyon initiated talks over a new deal with his representatives a few months ago to extend Ghezzal’s stay.

The winger was expected to sign on the dotted line once he returned from his holidays, but Lyon have confirmed that the player is yet to put pen to paper on the new contract.

And Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has insisted that if the player doesn’t sign soon, he will be transfer listed at the club.

Aulas said in a press conference: “He went on a holiday to Dubai, and was set to return late last week but he has extended his stay for a week.

“He has not signed the extension and he will be transfer listed if we don’t reach an agreement by next week.”

A number of clubs, including Liverpool, are keeping a close watch on proceedings in France as the standoff between the Aulas and the player could reach boiling point next week.

Celta Vigo, Valencia and Villarreal are also believed to be keeping track of the saga concerning Ghezzal and Lyon.
