Rangers new boy Niko Kranjcar has already sounded the war bugle against Celtic and insisted that the club must challenge the Scottish champions by playing good football next season.

The Scottish second division champions snapped up the Croatian midfielder on a free transfer earlier today, and Kranjcar signed a two-year contract with the Ibrox outfit.

Kranjcar played for clubs such as Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers in England, and is hoping that he will be able to adapt to Rangers' style of football, which is dependent on dominating possession.

He added that Rangers will compete with Celtic for the title next season and the only way they can challenge the Bhoys’ hegemony in the top tier is by playing good football.

When asked what he is expecting at Rangers after playing in England, the midfielder told Rangers TV: “I really hope so [that I can adapt to Rangers’ football], I think the style of play is going to be similar.

“I do think that Rangers is going to be a team that is mostly going to dominate possession.

“We’re here to fight Celtic and win the league, and it has to be that way.”

Kranjcar has become Mark Warburton’s sixth summer signing after Matt Crooks, Josh Windass, Jordan Rossiter, Joey Barton and Clint Hill.
