Giuseppe Bellusci is closing on a departure from Leeds United and a return to his homeland.

Empoli are pushing to do a deal for Bellusci and are around €300,000 apart in their valuation of the defender and Leeds' view of his value.

Bellusci is now closing on a switch to Italy, according to Radio Yorkshire, as he looks to continue his career in familiar surroundings.

The centre-back has been a controversial figure at Elland Road since his arrival at the club in 2014.

Bellusci has often made mistakes at key moments in games, costing Leeds points in the Championship.

He was dropped by Steve Evans towards the end of last season and now may leave the club without having had a chance to impress new head coach Garry Monk.

Leeds have been linked with launching a loan move for Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley and may have a gap to fill soon if Bellusci does depart.
