Tottenham Hotspur are to sign Spain Under-21 goalkeeper Pau Lopez from Espanyol and the custodian is happy to slot in as a backup option at White Hart Lane, it has been claimed.

Mauricio Pochettino has been looking to land another goalkeeper and in Lopez, who will turn 22 in December, has found his man.

According to Catalan daily Sport, Spurs have agreed to pay €600,000 to take Lopez on loan for the season, while they will have a purchase option set at €7m if they wish to keep him.

The deal has been verbally agreed between the two clubs.

It is claimed that Lopez is well aware he is heading to White Hart Lane as a backup goalkeeper and is willing to accept the situation.

Lopez is happy he has the confidence of Pochettino and the Spurs coaching staff, while he feels he can continue to improve as a goalkeeper in north London.

The goalkeeper's contract with Espanyol is due to expire in 2018 and the Spanish side had been trying to negotiate an extension, without success however.

Espanyol are now to start the hunt for a new goalkeeper.
