Liverpool new boy Georginio Wijnaldum has expressed his desire to try and write history with the team this season.

The Reds secured the signature of the midfielder from Newcastle United for a fee of £25m late in July and the player was involved in his new side's Premier League win against Arsenal last weekend.

The 25-year-old is happy with the start he and his team got, winning 4-3 away from home against the Gunners, and believes that it is only the start of good things to come from his team this season.

Speaking about history, the former Newcastle United player stated that his club have no dearth of it and this season they will strive to add to that already extensive history by winning silverware.

"I want to win titles. Liverpool is a club with a beautiful history, but we have to make new history and we can do it with titles and winning games", Wijnaldum told his club's official website.

"That's what I want to do here. We have a good team, really talented, and if we work as a team I think we can achieve a lot of things.

"A club like Liverpool deserves it. The players before us already wrote history and now it's on us to write more.

"I think we can achieve a lot of things with the team because the team is very talented. We have to believe that we can do something, that we can win titles.

"And if we can do that I'm sure it will be a big opportunity for us to win things – that's what I want to achieve with the team."

Wijnaldum though is well aware of the challenges that face them during the course of a prolonged season and wants to take it step by step as he believes that it is not impossible.

"Liverpool is a big club and you have to do everything to write history with them, that's what we have to do this season.

"It's not easy, but it's not impossible."
