AZ Alkmaar coach John van den Brom has revealed that he wants his side to come up against Manchester United in the Europa League group stage.

The Dutch outfit secured Europa League football after seeing off the challenge of FK Vojvodina in the playoff round, and have entered the draw for the group stage of the competition.

The 64 teams will be placed in 16 groups later today in Monaco, and Alkmaar boss Van den Brom admits that he would like his side to come up against the top teams in the group stage.

And the Dutchman revealed his personal preference is for facing Premier League giants Manchester United in the group stage of the Europa League.

Van den Brom told RTV Noord-Holland: “I like playing against the big teams.

“Preferably against Manchester United.”

Manchester United are in the Europa League this season by virtue of finishing fifth in the Premier League last season, and while they would have liked to be in the Champions League draw yesterday, the supporters are expected to keep their eyes peeled on proceedings in Monaco today.

Jose Mourinho is also waiting for European competition to start next month as he is keen to finally get a chance to rotate his squad, and provide more minutes to squad players.
