Asamoah Gyan is set for a medical at Reading today, ahead of his season-long loan move to the Championship club, according to Spanish daily Marca.

The former Sunderland striker, who was tipped to return to the Stadium of Light in the summer, is currently on the books of Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai SIPG.




Gyan joined Sunderland from Rennes for a club record £13m in August 2010 after impressing in that year’s World Cup in South Africa.

However, the Ghana international left the Black Cats after just one campaign, joining Abu Dhabi outfit Al Ain on loan before making the move permanent the following season.
 


Gyan, who joined Shanghai SIPG last summer, is now set for his second stint in English football, albeit in the Championship with Reading this time.

The forward scored 11 goals and provided five assits in 37 appearances in all competitions for Sunderland.

The 30-year-old just has a year left on his present contract with Shanghai SIPG.
