Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is excited by the signing of Cristian Gamboa from West Brom and has dubbed the full-back "the type of player I like".

The Bhoys swooped to bring in the 26-year-old from the Premier League club before the transfer window slammed shut this summer and Gamboa put pen to paper on a three-year contract.

Rodgers admits that he knows all about Gamboa and is excited to see what the right-back can do at Parkhead.

He feels the Costa Rica international has all the ingredients to flourish with the Scottish champions and has talked up his qualities, highlighting the new signing's aggression, pace, pressing and passing ability.

"He's the type of player I like", Rodgers told Celtic TV.

"I've known him for a little while and for various reasons he hasn't played so much for West Brom, but when he has played he's been very, very good.

"He's very much on the front foot, he's super quick, but first and foremost he can defend.

"He is aggressive in defending, he gets up to people, he presses the game well and then when he has the ball he can pass it and get forward.

"So I'm looking forward to seeing him work and play with us", the Celtic boss added.

Gamboa, who has won 50 caps for Costa Rica, has not yet had a chance to train with his new team-mates due to the international break.

It remains to be seen whether Rodgers will opt to involve the full-back against fierce rivals Rangers after the break, with the Old Firm game set for 10th September.
